sfdiffner87 's review for:
These Things Happen
by Richard Kramer
I loved this book. I really, really loved this book. And listening to Richard Kramer read it was an extra bonus because his pauses, little laughs, and even intake of breath enrich the experience.
Smart, funny, moving, and shocking: it's all of these things, plus it includes ongoing references to Stephen Sondheim. What could be better?
I bought this book (and, BTW I am so glad I did as I usually just borrow from the library) because I heard about it on a podcast about the TV show "thirtysomething," which was a huge influence on my life. So the Acknowledgements section was a lovely treasure to discover.
The closest thing that I have to a criticism is that, wow, these busy New Yorkers have a lot of time to stand around talking to the people they love. (Gee, kind of like the characters in "thirtysomething.") Maybe this is something for all of us to aspire to.
Thank you, Richard Kramer. I can't wait to see what you do next.
