cressanthemum 's review for:
The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Reality versus appearances, the turbulence of putting too much of your identity into your love of another person, the loneliness of a crowded room. This book left me feeling slightly out of sorts, in the way reality tv and beautiful writing can, but I’m not sure it will stick because F. Scott and I are not on the same brainwave. His writing is too dreamlike and slippery for me.
Still, although it remains incommensurate to my capacity for wonder, I am happy to continue rounding out my unfinished high school book list—it indeed led me to aesthetic contemplation!
