My favorite of these essays were the ones where Perry plays with form — repurposing formats of standardized tests, talk shows, emails, and more. Perry tackles complex topics & feelings through each individual essay, some of which interrelate and reference each other or similar experiences. The “heart” section at the end seemed like a departure from the rest, though it did leave the book to end on a hopeful note.
