Emily is a scholar writing an encyclopaedia of faerie lore. She goes to a very cold and snowy northern place to find out more about the faerie folk that live there. One of her colleagues, Wendell, joins her (to Emily’s dismay). They set out to gather knowledge and help out the village people.
I liked that it was from the viewpoint of a researcher! But honestly, I am somewhat disappointed in this book.I did not feel the romance at all. I have seen it described as slow burn, but to me it felt like they forgot to put the stove on. The declaration of love came pretty much out of nowhere and I did not at all understand why she liked him back. Emily’s choice to free the tree-king also irritated me a lot. Why did she think that was a good idea? But anyway. The rest of the book was enjoyable.
