Crazy that I started reading this the very night I watched Yentl for the first time.
Very similar to Babel by R. F. Kuang with more focus on the romance and less focus on the world building. Usually I want a rich world but Collins writes relationships so grippingly I didn’t mind the blurryness outside of the intimacy. The way she writes specific human physical gestures and habits makes it so much more vivid. The diary sections were fanstasic, the twist made me gasp. The ending wasn’t as satisfactory as it could be — which was my main complaint for The Binding as well — but it definitely could be worse and doesn’t ruin the book for me. Most of all, this book made me feel.
