Waiting for the Flood
by Alexis Hall
Two complete disasters break up and forget how to live and love until they each (separately) find a somewhat bland man willing to overlook all their red flags.
Separately I found both romances unsatisfying and rushed (novellas 🤷🏻‍♀️). Together, they tell the story of Edwin and Marius figuring out who they are and finding closure after their breakup. This overarching storyline had depth and complexity the romances lacked, and I felt all the connection and love (even if it wasn’t Happily Ever After ™️) I look for in a good romance.

Content note: Marius’ story around fear and risk of disability was given too much space to just add to the complexity of his character but not enough to be a respectful portrayal of this experience. Instead, it felt like a plot device or an excuse for him to be a dick.
