How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black

4.0

Man, this woman is an all-round artist. Queen of tripling, ONCE AGAIN. The writing is so precise and expertly chosen. Two examples I found interesting are: "to be picked up by some servant" says A LOT about Balekin and his attitude and treatment towards his works, as well as humans in general, as opposed to just "a servant"; and the first exclamation marks used in this entire text are when Cardan is excited about possibly finding a place in the Court of Grackles, finding people he belongs with and who want him. Cardan and Aslong? Amazing, beautiful, never been done before, ground-breaking.

It was really nice to get to see Cardan (and even Jude) not as a monarch, not as fae royalty and mortal human, not even as their characters in The Cruel Prince main trilogy, but as people; as a man and woman who happen to love each other. Also, the artwork is simply stunning!
