Air Awakens by Elise Kova

4.0

I'd been anticipating reading this book for a while and finally got around to it. I'm so glad I did!

First off, I'm actually really glad that Vhalla wasn't a total badass to start with and that we (hopefully) get to watch her grow into that role of a strong, powerful woman. I love our unstoppable, brilliant, and independent female leads in other books, but it's nice to watch the growth happen and see what's going on in her mind as she processes everything and tries to find her way in a world that despises her for what she is, with the help of some new friends.

The short little love-triangle thing going on was kind of cute, too. But of course, the brooding crown prince always decked in black keeps me on my toes and always wanting to see more of him (and just kiss her, damnit!)

Anyway, there are what seem to be a few plot holes (or maybe I just got so caught up in some areas, I missed things) or just things in general that weren't explained well. But overall, Kova did a great job of reeling me in and keeping me engaged with the fantasy, adventure, mystery, and budding love story. Picked up the second one immediately!
