Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors

2.0

This book was so bad that I genuinely enjoyed it because I was laughing at every other line. Reading it on holiday at the same time as two other friends made it more enjoyable as we could all discuss the unintentional comedy within the sexual scenes of this book. Also RIP to the pet sugar glider who randomly dies halfway through the book (what a fever dream). Cleo felt entirely unrealistic and seemed to be the stereotypical pretty but troubled girl in New York and her mental health troubles were some of the least convincing I have ever read. I hope the below quotes highlight why this book had me in such disbelief:

- "You know the word humiliate comes from the Latin root humus , which means ‘earth’? That’s how love is supposed to feel.” “Like hummus?”

- "An evening purse of p*ssy. A duffel bag of dick. A portmanteau of penis. A carry-all of cock. A backpack of boners. Cleo laughed."

- "It had felt like he was tracing the alphabet on her clit. L, M, N, O … POW!"
