Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher

“This would be easier if you could turn into a toad,” said Toadling.
[Halim] raised an eyebrow at her. “I can safely say that in all my life, no one has ever said that to me before.”

I chose this novella as a palate cleanser after an unfortunate series of less than enthralling reads, and as usual T. Kingfisher never lets me down. A richly imagined retelling of an old fairytale we all know from childhood, but with significantly more fae devilry and teeth.
