Mind of My Mind by Octavia E. Butler
4.0

This book was great. I think I may have liked the prequal a little better. The writing was equally as good in both stories. I just think the story in the first book was my preference. I'll have to sit and think on it some more. The way that Butler talks about relationships, children, and society is very interesting. Procreation is essentially seen as a means to an end. Relationships are viewed as fluid, which they are for sure in real life, but the fluidity of relationships in this story is different. It's hard to describe. Beneath the surface of the story it seems like Butler sends a message that we as humans are no different than the smallest microorganism at our core. Our basest instinct is to survive. Which is totally true. I feel like this review is rambling a bit now, but the book has a lot of layers to it and worth reading and thinking on.
