Under the Lake by Stuart Woods
3.0
I....ehhhh? There's a quote from Stephen King on the cover, "part detective story, part ghost story, part Southern Gothic...it scared the living hell out of me." Something key must've been edited out there, because I kept waiting to be scared, and the end is....I guess the best way to describe it without giving anything away is GROSS, but not scary. Also, Howell starts out as such a sad sack at the beginning, his transformation by the end is just bizarre. I get it's a small backwater and single men are scarce, but he did too well with the ladies, not to mention he suddenly remembered his Army training in time to do macho stuff? This book left me perplexed. I was trying something new, I made myself finish it, I didn't outright loathe it, so 3 stars. Will never recommend.
