Words in Deep Blue
by Cath Crowley
Ah! This book has so many elements I adore: 1) takes place in a book store 2) has several letters being exchanged 3) is named after my favorite color
In all honesty, the reader finds oneself in this book which is a coming of age story, a trying to learn to love story and a chronicle of the tough decisions we all face.
Rachel and Henry were best friends until Rachel moved away. When the overachieving biology student/swimmer, avid reader loses her brother to the sea her world crumbles. It's an honest and heartbreaking account of her grief. She's sent back to her home town to stay with her aunt when nothing else is working to help keep her from plummeting further.
She returns to hometown and starts working a the bookstore that Henry's family owns, Howling Books. I love the regulars, that they host book club, the idea of the letter library & the reading garden and most of all wish in my heart of hearts there was a bookshop like this near me.
