I don't mind books that time switch, but this one was a bit too disjointed. I felt like it took too long to get to the point and if I was someone who quit books when they are slow, I definitely would have quit this one. It is an interesting concept, and it made me feel pretty terrible thinking about all of the families that have been ripped apart and the people whose lives ended far too soon due to the cruelties of slavery. However, I bet there are better books out there to describe the horrors and incredible pain.
