Bij vierde lezing
Laatste boek over Narnia. Het verhaalt over het einde der tijden, met een valse profeet en een originele zij het wat moeilijk te geloven visie op het hiernamaals. Aan het einde wordt het boek openlijk religieus en daarmee nogal zeverig, maar daarvoor biedt het ingenieuze plot veel stof tot nadenken over geloof. Mooi geschreven kinderboek, zij het wat minder avontuurlijk dan de voorgaande delen.
Bij vijfde lezing
Het laatste deel van de Narnia-serie is de perfecte tegenpool van zijn voorganger. Ging [b:The Magician's Nephew|65605|The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia, #6)|C.S. Lewis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1308814770l/65605._SY75_.jpg|1031537] over het ontstaan van Narnia, dit deel beschrijft zijn einde.
Het begint sterk met een smerige aap die een valse Aslan ten tonele voert. Lewis beschrijft daarna perfect wat de consequenties voor geloof kunnen zijn. Helaas gaat deze allegorie over geloof, twijfel, angst en bedrog snel over in - zij het nogal evocatieve - beschrijvingen van de apocalyps en de hemel, waarin Lewis' rotsvaste geloof weer sterk naar boven komt borrelen.
Niettemin een mooi einde voor deze christelijk-spirituele, maar vooral mooie kinderboekenreeks.

Lewis makes an end to his world. It comes with a false prophet, an apocalypse and a last judgement, and is more about the nature of faith than all the other books. This is the only book in the series that doesn't start with the children, and their role is minor this time. More than ever they are spectators to the events unfolding.
