Well thank goodness that's over! I have never in my life read any book which such an unlikeable protagonist. A bigger bigot never walked the pages of a book. Evert Bäckström, detective something or other, has something against absolutely everyone who is not a white, Swedish male in his forties. At first I found it somewhat amusing because it's so unusual, but it got old quickly. There isn't anything funny about such ingrained sexism and racism. I thought Jo Nesbø's Harry Hole was loathsome, but he is an innocent lamb in comparison to the unremorseful asshole that Evert Bäckström is.
Because the main character is so deeply unsavoury, I had a hard time concentrating on the murder story itself. It is long winded and boring and the conclusion is farfetched to say the least.
Not recommended unless you are nationalist Swede in your mid-forties who hates everyone (particularly minorities) except yourself, in which case this is just the book for you. *blech* Don't think I'm going to read anything more of this author, EVER.
