I had no idea what to say in this review so I looked at others to see what parts I agree with.
Someone said far fetched and I can slightly see this. It gets to the point where it does feel like a story instead of it feeling realistic. But the concept of the book, abusive relationships in a drug/ gang setting is spot on- these things do really happen.
But the chances of a drug den with investigators with him raping her and also his friends raping and the fake FBI and the pregnancy, it’s a little too much.
YET. It was soooo gripping. I was GRIPPED and I love the way it was written, the shifts in narrators was perfect and my favourite style! The sexual assault scenes were horrible to read but she did a massive warning at the start of the book that it’s not for everyone.
She is controversial because apparently she romantics abuse- in this aspect the abuse is affective in the story and not just a way of glorifying it as it hits on real life situations and situations that young women can find themselves In especially with controlling men that do go to extreme lengths to keep a woman like tampering with birth control or stopping payments.
I would recommend this book but not to everyone. It definitely isn’t everyone’s thing. I hate how much hate she gets for books like this but yet there’s people watching horror films when children get murdered and stuff. It’s an amazing thriller, with a great ending, and I’m so happy it shows people in abusive situations that there is a way out. Maybe there’s not a secret police officer to fall in love with everytime but there is happiness beyond this.
