The Lost Dog by Michelle de Kretser
4.0

For a "mystery," I found the mystery aspect of this novel diminished from the whole. Altogether this was a very enjoyable read and haunting in many aspects. The author has an undeniably gift for poetry and my copy of the book is now thoroughly underlined in particularly lovely places. There was an undertone of animal activism ("The presumption of it struck Tom: that one should speak of ownership in relation to nerved flesh."), wonderfully subtle, which made me enjoy the novel even more than I otherwise might have.
