Dr. Ruth Galloway is a forensic anthropologist who lives in a remote area near Norfolk, England. She is contacted by DCI Harry Nelson for a consultation when bones are discovered on a nearby beach. Could they be the remains of a child who went missing years ago? Ruth becomes interested in the case and even though she usually likes being alone, she is also enjoying getting to know Nelson. The archeological facts presented in the story are interesting and the plot and characters are complex. I didn't like that Ruth was so critical of her weight or that a pet is harmed as part of the story. However, I found Ruth to be a compelling character and a development near the end has me eager to read the next book in the series.
Graphic: Animal death, Body shaming, Child death
