The Way I Used to Be
by Amber Smith
The Way I Used To Be By Amber Smith Is A Painfully Difficult Story To Read With Raw Talent And Emotions Amber Smith´s Writing Shines In This Heartbreaking Debut Novel About The Heartbreaking Aftermath Of A 14 Year Old Girl´s Rape And How She Grieves And Copes With The Aftermath And If That Is Making Poor Decisions And Pushing The People That Love Her Away
This Book Is Extremely Difficult To Review For Me Because I Was Raped Also During My Freshman Year In High School And It Packed A Punch In Me And Kinda Broke Me Into Pieces And Ripped My Heart Out And It Felt Like Someone Crushed My Heart And Stepped On It
I Could Sympathize With Eden As A Character Because I Went Through The Same Thing During And After My Rape I Did Not Tell Anyone And I Did Push People Away That Truly Loved Me And Wanted To Help Me And It Was Hard ( Even Today I Am Still Trying To Shake Off The Trauma Of It All )
This Book Overall Broke My Heart And Made Me Feel Like It´s Okay To Tell Your Story And Don´t Be Afraid To Tell Anyone Your Story ( When I Told My Story I Felt So Much Better Inside )
The Writing In This Book Was So Well Worded And Well Written I Felt Like I Could Relate To Eden As A Character And I Like When An Author Writes A Character Well And You Can Feel Or Sympathize With That Character Like I Did With Eden
Major Trigger Warnings
For Rape And Rape Culture And Sexual Assult ) That´s Kinda The Same Thing But You Get It Right ??
Because At The Start Of This Book The Assult Happens And It May Trigger People That Have Been Through It And Do Not Wanna Read About It
This Is A Poignant Novel That Realistically Looks At The Effects Of Trauma , Love , Relationships And Life And Its Worth Reading
Also When I Opened The Book I Didn´t Think I Would Finish This Book Because The Assult Is Kinda Graphic And Triggering Because It Happens Right In The 1st Chapter I Had To Take Deep Breaths And Tell Myself That I Was Okay And I Was Safe That No One Was Gonna Hurt Me Anymore Because This Book Brought Back Traumatic Scenes From My Rape And It Hurt Even More When It´s In Writing And It Packs A Punch And Not A Good One
I Didn´t Know How To Rate This Book Because It Was Hard To Read For Me So I Gave It A 2.5 Stars I Thought It Was A Well Written Book And Very Realistic Of What Rape Can Do To You And The Aftermath Of It All But Like I Said I Couldn´t Really Rate It Because This Book Brought Up Very Traumatic Things That I Did Not Know That Were Still There But I Really Did Like This Book But It Was Just A Very Difficult Read For Me And Will Probably Not Be Reread In The Future But I Did Like It Just Didnt Love It Because Of The Subject Matter Of This Book And The Memories It Brought Up For Me
Final Rating 2.5 Stars Because It Hurt Me This Book Really Did A Full 180 On Me And I Don´t Know If I Can Recover From Reading This Book Because It Hurt Me In Not A Good Way At All
