Blood Sugar by Daniel Kraus

I picked up this book based on the cover alone. I didn't even check to see what it was about...I was buying it. Wow. The story is told in the voice of a kid trying to be tough and "street" because that's how he thinks he has to be...but that voice is so fresh because this is his world...and that world of neglect and struggle is harsh and real, but with the small group of outcasts that he considers his "fam", that shit shows some real feeling, yo. There isn't anything nice going on here, but in his world, it just is what it is. Dark, depressing, funny, heartwarming.
