I don't know why I waited so long to read this one. It's fabulous! The autobiographical story itself is sweet and inspiring. A story of perseverance, ingenuity, dedication, and hope. I can see why the illustrations led to a Caldecott Honor & Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award recognition - the collage style helps the reader feel the inclusive community, and the illustrator's note at the end adds a depth of understanding to the visual choices and motifs of the musical elements that adds to the text. Love this book - a must share!
