🔪 psychological thriller.
— slow-paced, dual pov

“i’ve been terrible at getting close to people over the last four years because i’ve been so scared of what they’ll think of me when they find out about my past. and i was right.”

another five-star read from freida mcfadden! the story follows millie, a housemaid who is desperately trying to keep her past a secret. she gets a job with the garrick family, which provides her with a sense of normalcy and stability, but when she hears crying and discovers blood on mrs. garrick’s nightgowns, her world starts to turn upside down.

first of all, this book is an absolute page-turner. for me, the concept is way better than the first one. the plot was unpredictable, and it is a type of story that you can read in just one sitting. the new characters were built perfectly. to be honest, there are some time when i feel irritated because of the fmc and her curiosity over everything which puts her life in danger, but she is still amazing for me. one more thing i also like about this book is the writing style—freida mcfadden is really the best when it comes to writing stories in the most exciting way.

lastly, the plot twists in this book absolutely twisted my mind. definitely a must-read, i will highly recommend this to those loves mystery and thriller books.
