ecari 's review for:
Purple Hibiscus
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
I felt immersed in this book as I read, while so many other novels I skate over top. I felt like I could almost hear Kambili struggling to find her voice, taste the dishes described, hear traditional songs sung by her aunt and then the young priest, feel the fear mixed with helpless love that Kambili lived with every day. Adichie’s writing is rich and clear. This is not a book driven by plot but rather a slice of life. I feel as though I was transported to Nigeria for a while. And I was forced to struggle with the nuanced challenge of the abuser who also fosters good and is loved and is unforgivable. This is an amazing novel; I will be reading more from Adichie.
