Orphan Kit Tyler travels from Barbados to Connecticut colony, where she struggles to fit in to the Puritan household of her aunt and uncle, finding friendship and freedom with local Quaker woman (and rumored witch) Hannah Tupper.

Storytime! When I was growing up, my parents and I took a lot of road trips, and we would generally get audiobooks to listen to during the drives. Since this was ye olden days, the audiobooks were on a CD from the library. Enter THE WITCH OF BLACKBIRD POND, which I was really enjoying—until we discovered mid-trip that we were missing a CD. Something like fifteen years later, and I realized I never found out how this book ended, so I snagged a (now-digitized) audio copy from Libby so I could finally get closure.

I’m really glad I revisited this one, because while I’m no longer the age of the target audience, I still really enjoyed it. I didn’t recall this being as romance/marriage focused as it felt on this read, but I really enjoyed Kit and Nat and found the story very sweet as a whole. I also really loved the ending, so I’m happy to have finally heard it! Recommended to anyone who would like an elementary/middle school historical fiction throwback or anyone looking for something to read/listen to with middle grade kids.

CW: Mild violence; religious bigotry/persecution
