The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts by Gary Chapman

4.0

My husband (then boyfriend) lent me this book to read, having already taken the love language quiz. I lent him the first few Animorphs books to read in return (he subsequently read the first graphic novel versions instead, as I gifted them to him), and I have finally read this book, nearly 3 years after he recommended it to me. Oops! But much of what was in the book, we had already been (sub- for me) and consciously doing together, about discovering what each of our love languages was/were, and how to give that love language to the other. It helped me not only put words to how I receive love, but also realize how I give love not only in my husband’s love languages (primary and secondary), but also how flexible I am in employing each of the love languages. I know a couple I want to lend this book to in the hopes that it might help them discover each other’s love languages, to communicate better, and improve their own relationship. Love is important, choosing to love most of all, but not far behind is giving that love to the other person in ways that fill them. When we each speak each other’s love language to the other, there is more love to go around, and more happiness together.
