The Sleepwalkers by Scarlett Thomas
2.75
dark mysterious slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

There are two elements of the story.
One: Evelyn and Richard and their disastrous honeymoon. Neither seems to really like each other and something, hidden from us until very late, happened at the wedding that had 'cursed' them. This story was good, I was interested in these two characters who had fallen into a marriage and probably should never have stayed together. When I find out the 'curse' I wanted more about how the characters would move on from this.
Two: the 'mystery' of the Sleepwalkers, a couple who stayed on the island and who tragically died after walking into the sea. This whole 'mystery' and what may have caused this incident seems really forced, badly integrated and it didn't feel like it fit with the rest of the book.
There were moments where I thought this would be really good, but I finished the book feeling a bit disappointed and underwhelmed.
