The Troop by Nick Cutter
medium-paced
4.5
Read trigger/content warnings because a lot of the descriptions can be pretty gruesome.
Great horror if you like body horror and sci-fi horror. Gave me the willies and reminded me how much and why I'm scared of worms. The ending was a little cliffhanger-y because it was left with a character having a bit of mystery or open endedness that you could go a few ways with especially with what one other character says before the ending and if you know parasite relationship styles. The boys were interesting, with one being so infuriating and awful (slight spoiler -didn't feel bad at all for that character when things folded the way they did with him). The story was gross and engrossing with me wanting to read more and more while being absolutely disgusted and creeped out. Had to shake myself out a few times while reading because I was so creeped/grossed out. I was also really sad about what happened to one of the boys in particular. He deserved so much better.
Would be willing to read more from this author.
