it's rare i manage to guess how a whodunnit is going to end, but i did it this time. it's a pretty decent book, as far as a murder mystery goes, and i think it's a rather fun way to try to retell "the wizard of oz." but ultimately, all i can say is that this book is fine. the writing style is very straightforward, but the story is a bit predictable and not one i would find myself returning to or thinking about beyond this review.
i did appreciate the somewhat unconventional ending. it's satisfactory, if a little unhappy, but how he's built up the town of sun bonnet, i would have been surprised by anything more.
