The Sanctuary by Andrew Hunter Murray

3.0

I would probably give this a 3.5 all in, but rounded down because I don’t think it’s quite as good as the other 4 star books I’ve got on my read list. For context, I listened to this as an audiobook and I really enjoyed that it was narrated by the author.

I found myself very sucked into this book. After getting through the first couple of scene setting chapters, I found I was searching for time in my day to play the later chapters and I grew from listening to one or two at a time to really carving out an hour or so to listen to several chapters in a sitting.

Classic tropes of mystery, cults and biological life changing decisions were used well in this novel. I felt I was always one piece of information away from knowing the crux of the story and I liked how the author peppered these in just the right amount. One thing I really enjoyed, especially listening to the book, was how well the author wrote a character who is being taken in by the preachings of an unknown cult mentality. I heard in the main characters voice their change in opinion, which I enjoyed.

All in all, a good book but at times, a little predictable!
