Child seems to find the empty western plains a fascinating place where anything can happen, including a complicated drug deal involving an underground bunker left over from WWII. The cold in South Dakota is almost another character, it's so vividly described. How Reacher survives the holocaust at the end of this one I can't imagine, but since there's another book in the series, I will soon find out.
