A Nameless Witch by A. Lee Martinez

4.0

This was a book that I wasn't expecting to like. Drawn in by the tagline which read "A tale of vengeance, true love, and cannibalism", I thought myself thinking that this would be the perfect break from all the very heavy books I'd been reading lately. I was 100% right. The book is charming and I found myself liking it a lot more than I thought I would. It reminds me somehow of the fantasy books that I used to read when I was younger, like it's a modern take on an older way of telling stories. The cast of the story is unique enough that I found myself gleeful at their antics. It really is a breath of fresh air. It feels like it's been a long time since I've read some fantasy which involves an epic quest, but is also really good with levity.

Everything is so dark fantasy these days that this was a welcome change. Plus, this is a story that made me fall in love with a duck and a broom. If you think you can resist the lure of the duck and the broom... give it a shot, but they're really quite endearing.
