pandojc 's review for:
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
by James Joyce
This was a long hard slog. The writing was beautiful but there isn't much in the way of plot. I enjoyed the beginning of the book when the narrator is describing his life through the eyes of a young boy. But once he got to the teen years, it was very slow going. Almost the entire novel takes place in the angst-ridden thoughts of the narrator and it was sheer stubbornness that kept me reading this.
