The Undertaker's Daughter by Katherine Mayfield, Kate Mayfield
3.0

Kate Mayfield's memoir tells us about growing up as the "undertaker's daughter" ... but much more as well. We meet her when she is a child living with her parents and her siblings. They live above the funeral home owned by Frank (her father) in Jubilee, KY in the 60's and 70's. Jubilee is most definitely "small town". Kate was a spunky child and seemed to be the only sibling interested in her dad's business. As a teen she pushed the envelope by speaking her mind and by dating black boys.

This book touched on many issues, including not only interracial dating in that time period, but also PSD, adultery, alcoholism, and mental issues.

Kate was definitely a "Daddy's girl" but it was interesting to watch her view and understanding of Frank change as she grew up and saw him more for what he really was. Her love for him never seemed to waiver, regardless.

Thank you Netgalley & Gallery, Threshold, Pocket books for my ARC copy. It was my pleasure to read it and give you my honest review!
