The Revenge Agenda by Saxon James
4.0
The Revenge Agenda is the third book in Saxon James's Accidental Love series. It's a MM romance with a rather unconventional meet-cute/ugly for the main characters. You could read this book as a standalone, but it's way more fun to read the rest of the series in order. This book is told from a first person dual point of view and contains a guaranteed happily ever after. You can expect neurodivergent representation, cheating (not between the main characters), a workplace romance, and sweet revenge. Please review the content warnings and always take care of yourself while reading.
Synopsis: What should've been a surprise for him and his boyfriend's one-year anniversary turns into the worst night of Rush's life filled with embarrassment and heartbreak. He never expected his boyfriend to be hosting his fiancé's family. Hunter gave up his life in Portland to move to Seattle and be with his fiancé, only to learn he has a guy on the side. So the last person Hunter expects when he walks into his new job is Rush (hiding under a desk). They'll have to find a way to coexist in this strange new reality. And maybe, just maybe, some sweet revenge can bring them closer together than they ever could've imagined.
I've been patiently awaiting Rush's story ever since we met him in [b:Not Dating Material|83161072|Not Dating Material (Accidental Love, #2)|Saxon James|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1690973676l/83161072._SY75_.jpg|107799083]. Unfortunately, Seven had a gut-feeling about Rush's boyfriend that turned out to be right. I absolutely adored Rush's character. I appreciated the honest way Saxon James went about writing Rush, and her author's note before the beginning of the story coupled with the use of sensitivity readers, research, and personal experience really made Rush a dynamic character. His decision about using medication for his ADHD diagnosis was deeply personal, and I think it's representation we don't often get to see in books.
I will be perfectly candid, I hated Hunter at first. With a passion. Even though he did make sure Rush got home safe after their disastrous first meeting, I had already decided I would protect Rush at all costs and I didn't like the way Hunter spoke to him. Never fear, Hunter more than redeemed himself by the end of the book (and thank goodness for bosses like Ted, the unsung hero of The Revenge Agenda). I loved the revenge plotline coupled with their emails. And I enjoyed watching Rush tell Hunter exactly what he needed and setting guidelines and boundaries in their relationship - I think this is something more people could do better in their own lives.
Some additional elements in this story that made me super happy were the Xander cameos - seriously, I think an entire fanbase is eagerly anticipating his story. He's too funny and so loyal! And Seven's friendship with Hunter was completely unexpected but actually perfect. This book was a really fun read, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series coming our way later in 2024!

“I lost track of the time and heard you down here. I’m told it’s polite to make introductions, but given you’re already inside, I take it you’ve at least met someone. Unless you let yourself in, which is kind of rude, but okay with me.”
“I met Xander.”
“Oh no. Did he try to have sex with you?”

“I told you I won’t fuck you for revenge. The day you take my cock is the day you forget his name. When we fuck, Rush, the only name you’ll remember is mine. Because you’ll be screaming it.”
