The Sweetest Revenge by Lizzy Dent
2.0
The title of the book is misleading. You would think the majority of the plot was actually planning and carrying out revenge against a jilted lover who screwed over the main female character. Instead, it was only maybe 2 pages of the book. Not kidding.
I had a hard time getting into this book because while I think Chris was an insecure f*ckboi with some semblance of power, I didn't care for the main female character Amy Duffy, who refers to herself in 3rd person, more than once. While there's nothing wrong with confidence, hers was veering on arrogance. Jake was actually a dreamy Brit who deserved better than to be used by Amy to climb the corporate ladder as a creative in tv development. The romance only took up the last few pages, so it was just somewhat misleading to call this a romance. I liked the part about the development of a tv show. Maybe I would've watched it, too.
Amy pushed away Jake's natural inclination toward human interest drama stories toward her own love of grisly murder. She was selfish at times and not particularly quick to believe the whole fool me twice thing that she's warned about by friends and family. And her embarrassing story that Chris is holding over her head? He deserved every bit but was over the top tbh. I just didn't connect with Amy at all. She skips her cousin's wedding in which she was a bridesmaid because she lost her job and boyfriend?? It did get better from the beginning, but tbh it should have been a dnf. 2 stars. [Library book at least]
