Brooklyn by Tracy Brown

4.0

Listen, Brooklyn had me feeling the way I felt when I was reading Grown by Tiffany Jackson - I often wanted to toss the book due to some of the decisions she was making - which as a reader, could be a good thing. I love me some Tracy Brown, and rest in power to her! Im grateful we got to experience her last piece of work.

The family dynamic kept me going - I hated her mom! She just reminds me of all the mothers who are their daughters #1 hater; even at the end when you think she was coming back around. Her dad loved her, but there was also so many questionable things about him, his dealings with women, and the façade he was putting on. The loss of Amir took me through the roof - that's so many people's story once revealing his sexuality (well being outed). I knew Hope was going to be the one to save the family, sad to say with her being the youngest, but I knew it.

Brooklyn put me through the ringer - I just do not understand why she was so selfish and just moved so funny. I had such high hopes for her; knowing that she caught on quick with the streets. But to literally show no mercy to those who held her down was beyond me! I also can't believe who ended up taking her out (parts of me feels like the editors had more hand in that than Tracy did, it just felt weird).

I would absolutely recommend this book - I love Tracy's work!
