I have not enjoyed a book this much in recent memory. This novel is gorgeous, complicating, and crafted with so much heart. Its greatest strengths are De Robertis’ potent sense of place and her heroines. For all the story’s complexity, the very end felt more conclusive and polite than life ever is. Despite this, I will forever be glad that this book came into my life when it did.
