Happiness Falls by Angie Kim

This is probably the most difficult review I’ve ever had to write. I loved Miracle Creek and went into this one with high expectations and it started with a bang and I knew I was going to love it…but I didn’t love all of it.

I loved that this one was so focused on science and intellectual pursuits. I was thrilled to see the focus on autism and ethnicity, particularly the preconceived notions of both. And I really enjoyed how the beginning of COVID played a role here.

But as a thriller/mystery, the story just wasn’t that interesting. I think unfortunately the story got a bit bogged down because it was trying to accomplish so many things at once and it didn’t quite hit me the way Miracle Creek had.

Am I glad I read this one? Yes. Would I recommend it to others? No, not as a thriller, but yes, as a think piece. I know parts of this book will stay with me a long time.
