City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

4.0

I first read City of Bones as a teenager and the Mortal Instrument series quickly became one of my favorites. I’ve been meaning to reread the series because I never read the 5th or 6th books and it’s about damn time.

Something I think Cassandra Clare is really good at is character development. Jace is so damn sexy hahaha. He feels real and his background is heartbreaking. Clare creates tension between her characters which makes their relationships more interesting and believable, and I also think she is the queen of love triangles.

That being said, I do feel there are some parts of City of Bones that feel clumsy. Some of the dialogue is cheesy (and not particularly realistic for a bunch of 16/17 year olds) and how she introduces her world building felt like a history lesson at times rather than normal conversation.

I still love the series and I am so excited to reread the books.
