Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress

I thought the characters were decently developed, the plot was interesting, but I realized by the end that the author tries too hard to drill into your head stuff that should come naturally while reading the story (e.g., page long passages that essentially scream, "BE SURE TO COMPARE AND CONTRAST THESE TWO CHARACTERS GIVEN THEIR SHARED BACKGROUNDS AND HOW THEY REACTED TO THE CURRENT SITUATION." I guess this will be helpful to stimulate conversation for the book group I read this for, but it was pretty grating after a while, especially in the last few chapters.
