Pick this up to “turn off my brain,” ended up frustrating me to now end lol.

There are wayyy too many perspectives. It jumps back and forth between them before the reader can feel anything for the characters. The characters are rushed, the same handful of adjectives every few pages - dizzy, ashamed, sick, etc. It was next to impossible to care about the characters because you read a handful of paragraphs about them at a time. I guess it could be plot-driven, but it’s altogether aimless. Even though a little girl is missing, it felt incredibly low-stakes.

*Spoiler*
The fact that the real “mastermind” is the neurodivergent girl with behavioral problems made me almost put down the book. It’s such an ableist approach to a mystery that I won’t be reading anything from this author again.
