The Vulnerables by Sigrid Nunez

reflective medium-paced

4.0

I leave this feeling unsure what to think exactly. The writing was wonderful to read, and I felt that it is one of the most true-feeling reflections on the pandemic I’ve read thus far. However, I’m not totally sure if I’m the right audience member for this book, it was so reflective (sentimental? Nostalgic?) as to feel slightly out of reach for me. I also never felt like I knew the narrator (I was surprised at the end when she said she was 65, I was reading this thinking she was either 30 or 80, I couldn’t pin her down!). But the musings about writing, about whether people even care about novels, about remembering, were all very interesting. I have a feeling that my thoughts on this one will continue to evolve, so I might come back to this review.
