Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Very good story, that for some reason often gets misinterpreted. Its about fascism, and how people are much more capeable of doing evil that our safe, lawful society makes it seem.
Characters aren’t too deep, but get you to like them just enough for you not to be bored.
Prose is also pretty cool and inventive, while not wasting time on loads of landscape descriptions.
