rlharr 's review for:
The Book of Azrael
by Amber V. Nicole
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
No
Loveable characters:
No
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
Really didn’t enjoy this unfortunately. The storyline was good but it was ruined by the 2 mains characters. I felt like any potential mystery or tension was destroyed by having both their points of view. They say everything so literally as well, there’s no subtlety to the writing.

Liam was insufferable throughout, was so incapable of understanding his feelings he had no emotional intelligence. Dianna was better, but went downhill the more time she spent with him. When we discover that Liam destroyed the planet DELIBERATELY and Diana is upset for about half a second before she’s fine with it and thinking about fucking him. Later on in the book he calls her horrible things and blames the upcoming war on her being there because she’s a “parasite” and “infection” and has gotten under his skin, and all she said was “you’re right”, if I had been reading a book instead of listening I’d have thrown it across the room at that point. The whole relationship is disgustingly toxic, not to mention the fucked up lover/enemy/therapist role Diana takes on in Liam’s life. I’m glad it’s over, I only finished it so I could add it to my reading challenge for this year.
