Jane & Edward: A Modern Reimagining of Jane Eyre
by Melodie Edwards
I adored this. The author's writing style is as down to earth and honest as Jane always tries to be with herself. The characters are well fleshed out, Jane and Edward especially. It was a lot of fun reading how they met, her working relationship with him, their eventual relationship and the fall out when she learns his secret. They are well paired as they are opposites in many ways - Jane is practical, cautious, calm, collected, determined and resilient. Edward is a loud, blunt, whirlwind of a man who intimidates every assistant hired for him and is a brilliant lawyer who has no patience for the incompetence of others. But he is also caring, passionate and seeks to do the right thing for the employees of his law firm. The dialogue between Jane and Edward is wonderfully done, as Jane gets used to her boss and let's some of her own snarky side out to play, which Edward enjoys. Overall, I think Melodie Edwards did a great job bringing Jane Eyre into a 21st century setting. If she writes more books, I would be interested in reading them.
