Breathe by Abbi Glines
1.0

1.5 stars. I honestly should’ve stopped listening to “Breathe” after 30 minutes of the audiobook. It was at that point that I realized the story was a dud/not for me. To say I did not like this novel would be a huge understatement.

The “not like other girls” trope was written all over the book, the characters had absolutely no personalities, and the dialogue... I thought I was reading romance, not horror. Any time a boy opened his mouth to compliment the main love interest, I knew I would get the heebie jeebies. I should’ve counted the amount of times people called her unique or commented on how different she was from other girls because looking back, it seems like that’s what the conversations revolved around. And other conversations throughout the novel felt stilted and awkward. Teenagers simply don’t speak the way the author wrote, and I just couldn’t get on board with Abbi Gline’s writing style.

And don’t even get me started on the actual relationship. The two love interests called each other their “air.” Need I say more? It was a huge drama-fest and not the kind I like listening to.
