I had expected a continuation of Maren and Kye's story (the ending of Book 2!!! 😭), but was pleasantly surprised to find that this is the story of Maren's mother and aunt. Here I had loved those first two books, but was absolutely blown away by Book 3. I fell right into the story from Page 1, and perhaps it's because you already have an idea of the devastation to come, but this hit harder for me.

There is so much of the world and story that is filled in here, and it makes you love the characters even more. Cebrinne, Maren's mother, is feisty and a bit reckless, and you can't help but love her for it. Her (non-identical) twin, Selena, comes out of the shadows of the previous books, as the protective one who is loyal to a fault. Thaan is even more despicable than we've already seen - which is saying something! And Pheolix had my heart from the beginning, with his quips and snark.

Selena and Cebrinne's bond is deeper even than described before, and I really loved their interactions. As a sister myself, I definitely could relate to their dynamic and how they drove each other crazy while being willing to die for one another.

Pheolix (whose name I adore as much as his character) was the perfect sarcastic, arrogant yet vulnerable, match to Selena's quieter and measured personality. Their tension was such a delight.

I devoured this, and cannot wait to get back into this world eventually. I love the way the magic system works, and the descriptions of the Naiads part in it all. When it comes to sirens, fantasy stories can be hit or miss with me, but this story does it perfectly! This book is full of adventure, heartstopping intense moments 😉, and banter, and oh, was I here for it all!
