The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune

5.0

What is there to say? I just absolutely loved this book. I’m really starting to learn that friends to lovers is my favorite romance trope, so much better than enemies first. Anyway besides the romance aspect of the book the rest of it was also perfect.

The idea of superheroes existing in the real world is already a fun idea, but following someone who writes fanfiction about them was even better because people would do this. Hell they do it now with fictional ones. But following Nick was just the perfect main character to follow in this story. Of course he isn’t the only great character because all of the characters were amazing. The friends Seth, Gibby and Jas are a great friend group, I pretty much felt like I was part of the group. All of their lines had me laughing the entire time, sometimes pacing around my room because I was freaking out.

Then there’s the relationship with Nick and his dad. It could just be my daddy issues, but whenever there’s a good dad in a book I always want that day to be mine, and this one is no exception. This relationship just felt so real, especially when it came to the aspect of dealing with the loss of a loved one and having a kid who needs to be on medication that is portrayed in a way that is healthy and not just the parent not understanding their kid. Again it was just a nice relationship to read about and one I look forward to reading more of with the second book.

Of course we can’t talk about this book without talking about Seth and Nick’s relationship. Like I said this childhood friends to lovers is possibly the sweetest a romance can get. Learning how they met on the swing set and how after meeting it was the first time Seth really started to talk after losing his parents. That just melted my heart. Finally when we got to them actually admitting their feelings I was just so excited, especially Nick saying he was going to date Seth so hard and climb him like a tree. I mean what a perfect way to talk to the person you like.

Overall I just really liked this book and glad it was my first 5 star of the year. Please go read this one.
