In a rare occasion where I happened to listen to the audiobook before reading the text itself, there was no disappointment here.
As always, Burke's work is fantastic. Heart wrenching and edge-of-your-seat-worthy where I clung to every word. In this case, also spurred on by Savannah Rivers' wonderful narration. Not an emotional roller-coaster so much as an emotional *experience* where frequently the text made several emotions rise at once and linger, instead of a vicious spiraling track.
I'll probably read it in physical format next, just to fully sit with the weight of the words in my own head. Backward from my traditional reading pattern, yes, but Burke's craft ensures it will be an enjoyable second read nonetheless.
